Various Types of Pavement Design

This course will enable you to understand the best practices being used and new techniques available in pavement design plus what type to use, the various types of pavement design available on different networks, the requirements of traffic data and the impact of The Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB).

Please also see Practical Highway Design

Also available as an online training course.

Please note the online version of this training course will be split into modules.

Overview:

There are various types of pavement design, dependent upon location; Motorway, Trunk road, or local highway authority network. The Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) dictates how the majority of UK highways are designed. The use of these documents is mandatory for operations on Motorways and Trunk Roads. Many Local Authorities use the DMRB to govern work on their highways, however as changes in legislation and austerity measures are altering how local authorities to review and change their techniques for road maintenance, this course will:

  • Enable you to consider the impact of DMRB
  • Assist understanding of new legislation and analysis measures
  • Assess your understanding of various types of maintenance and construction techniques
  • Undertake exercises of various types of road pavement design

Aims & Objectives:

On completion of this course, delegates will be able to:-

  • Calculate the Design Traffic for maintenance projects and new road schemes
  • Design foundations
  • Ascertain the thicknesses of the various layers in the pavement
