Overview:
This workshop is for people with a learning disability who want to think about their personal presentation and interpersonal skills
Aims & Objectives:
On completion of this course, delegates will:
Be able to
- Introduce themselves to others
- Gain confidence in meeting new people
- Identify appropriate behaviour, dress and personal presentation
Have an understanding of
- The skills of good communication
- How we stereotype people
- The importance of first impressions
Gain experience of
- Communicating with others
- Introducing themselves
- Practical interpersonal skills
Course Outline:
- Discussion and practice on how do you introduce yourself
- Discussion on what makes a good impression
- How to speak up for yourself - a practical guide
- Practical session on interpersonal skills
The overall approach will be one which is participatory and builds on participants own experience. In addition, participants will be provided with presentations, the opportunity for group discussions and real life scenarios for skills practice.
The workshop is one that is based around the delegates and their skills and requirements
Participants will gain an insight into the breadth of the subject and have the opportunity for skills practice in a safe non threatening environment
Intended For:
Any one with a learning disability who wants to gain confidence in day to day interactions
An open mind, a willingness to take part, individual delegates may attend
with personal assistants if this facilitates their participation
