Overview:
This course is aimed at carers in care homes who look after elderly people with varying degrees of physical and mental health as well as varying abilities.
Aims & Objectives:
By the end of the course care staff should have a greater understanding of:
- Why they should get to know those they care for (their past, their families, hobbies, likes and dislikes, their personality etc).
- How they have coped with loss in older age i.e. loss of a spouse, child, loss of health, home etc.
- Seeing the person as they were and not just as they see them now.
- Clients needs.
- The need for meaningful stimuli.
- What stimulating activities are?
- Who provides those activities?
- How activities can impact on the well being of those they look after.
- How provision of activities can not only enhance the client's lives but
make their role more rewarding.
